God of War Laufey Preorders Are Open — $69.99 or $79.99, and There Is No Collector's Edition

Preorders for God of War Laufey opened on 29 September 2026. It is a PS5 exclusive, it launches on 16 February 2027, and there are two editions.

What you can buy

The Deluxe adds a Dark Alchemy armour set with cosmetic weapons, a digital mini artbook and the official soundtrack.

Crucially, there is a $10 deluxe upgrade on the PlayStation Store if you start with Standard. That is the single most useful fact here, and we come back to it below.

The bonuses — and a disagreement worth knowing about

Three extras are attached to preordering: Faye's Last Wish armour set, a Golden Leaves appearance for Phranque, and an in-game resource pack.

Our sources do not agree on what those actually are. TheGamer presents all three as preorder bonuses with a cutoff the day before launch. Beebom lists the same three as Standard Edition contents, which would mean they are not time-limited at all.

That distinction decides whether there is any reason to preorder rather than wait, so we are not going to paper over it. Treat them as preorder bonuses — that is the framing with an explicit deadline attached, and it is the safer assumption — but if you were planning to buy at launch anyway, check the store listing on the day before concluding you have missed something.

One small note for anyone confused by the names: Faye is Laufey. She is Kratos's wife, and this is the first God of War in which Kratos is not the playable character — the game follows her through the afterlife after her death in Ragnarok. The release date was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

No collector's edition, and that is now a pattern

There is no collector's edition for Laufey. The premium tier is digital-only, and the physical release is the $69.99 standard.

We have written this same paragraph twice already this year. Marvel's Wolverine shipped with no collector's edition and a digital-only deluxe. Final Fantasy VII Revelation cut its physical offering down to one disc and a mandatory download. Now PlayStation's next first-party tentpole arrives with the collector tier simply absent.

Three data points is a direction, not a coincidence. And it sits directly on top of the other fact shaping this: Sony stops manufacturing physical PlayStation games in January 2028, which we set out in the 2028 disc cutoff explained. A February 2027 release is one of the last PlayStation exclusives that will get a disc at all.

If you collect, that is the argument for buying the physical standard edition rather than the digital deluxe. It is also the argument for not expecting a steelbook or a statue on anything from here on.

Should you preorder?

Probably not yet, and the $10 upgrade is why.

Digital preorders gain you nothing except the bonuses. There is no scarcity on a digital PS5 game, no queue, and no risk of it selling out. Preordering digitally five months early hands Sony an interest-free loan in exchange for cosmetics.

The upgrade path removes the hard decision. You do not have to choose between Standard and Deluxe now. Buy Standard, and if the artbook and soundtrack turn out to matter to you after release, the $10 top-up is there. That is strictly better than paying $79.99 in September for digital extras you cannot evaluate until February.

Physical is the one case for acting earlier, and not because of stock. It is because a disc is an asset you keep, and the window for PlayStation discs is closing.

Watch for a price cut instead. A five-month runway is plenty of time for retailers to discount the physical standard edition below $69.99, which has happened routinely with first-party PS5 releases. Preordering at list price forfeits that.

The short version

$69.99 standard with a disc, $79.99 Digital Deluxe without one, $10 to move between them later, and 16 February 2027. No collector's edition, continuing a run that now includes Wolverine and FF7 Revelation. Unless you want the disc, there is no advantage to preordering this in September.
