Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition: What the $14.99 Upgrade Actually Gets You

The Complete Edition lands 1 October at $69.99, with a $14.99 upgrade for existing owners. It brings a two-timeline expansion and a roguelike survival mode — and that mode is not the free update some coverage suggested.

Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition arrives on 1 October — 2 October in some territories including Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Here is exactly what you are paying for.

The two prices

  • New buyers — $69.99. The main game, Ghost of Yotei Legends (the online co-op mode, up to four players), and both new additions.
  • Existing owners — $14.99. The Complete Edition Upgrade, which adds the two new pieces to the copy you already own.

What the $14.99 adds

Echoes of Sekigahara — a narrative expansion running on two timelines. In the present, you meet Nagato and explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang. In flashback, you play Atsu's time on the mainland, including the Battle of Sekigahara itself.

Most Wanted — a new single-player combat survival mode that Sucker Punch describes as its spin on a roguelike. You accept bounties to start runs.

One thing to be clear about

Some coverage out of the State of Play described the new survival mode as a free addition. Going by PlayStation's own announcement, it is not. Most Wanted comes with the Complete Edition or the $14.99 upgrade, and not otherwise.

If you were waiting for it to land as a free update, you were waiting for something that is not coming.

Preorder bonus, and the deadline

Preordering the digital Complete Edition by 30 September unlocks the Sakai Armor early, on 1 October. That is a nod to Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, and it is the only time-limited part of this release.

Is it worth it?

If you own the game: $14.99 for a two-timeline story expansion plus a full roguelike mode is straightforward value — this is priced like a single expansion and contains two things.

If you do not own it: $69.99 for the base game, the co-op mode and both expansions is the version to buy. There is no reason to buy the original edition separately at this point.

If you finished it a year ago and moved on: Most Wanted is the more interesting half. A bounty-run roguelike built on combat this good is a different proposition from more story, and it is the part that gives the game a reason to stay installed.
