Look at that list again
The deepest featured discount in Sony's own autumn sale is Starfield. Below it sit Halo: Campaign Evolved and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Three of the most aggressively discounted headline games on the PlayStation Store are published by Microsoft.
That is not a coincidence, and it is not a bad thing for anyone who owns a PS5 — it is what the end of hard platform exclusivity actually looks like in a storefront. Microsoft now sells its catalogue on Sony's machine and prices it to move there, while Sony's own first-party appears with lighter cuts, because it does not need to buy attention on its own store.
It is the same shift we saw at the State of Play, where Final Fantasy VII Revelation closed the show as a game launching everywhere at once, and Double Fine's Keeper arrived on PS5 the same week. The direction is consistent: fewer walls, more competition for the same wallet, and better prices for players.
Two things to check before you buy
Cross-check PS Plus first. Extra and Premium catalogues rotate constantly, and paying for something that is about to arrive free is the most avoidable mistake in any sale. Our September PS Plus schedule lists what has landed and when; October's Extra and Premium line-up is announced on 14 October.
Check a price history. "40% off" is only meaningful against what a game usually sells for, and several titles here have been cheaper in previous sales. A storefront discount percentage is measured against list price, not against the best price you could have paid.
The sale ends 7 October, so there is no need to rush a decision this week.
