The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered landed on 29 September 2026. It is a free upgrade, it is roughly 45GB, and on PS5 it is not a separate product — it is a patch to the game already in your library.
CD Projekt's own wording is that Remastered replaces the Complete Edition, with both expansions included by default. Anyone still sitting on the PS4 version gets the same free upgrade path they always had, which now lands on Remastered instead.
The trophy question, answered
This is the first thing trophy hunters will want to know, and it is settled. There is no new trophy list.
CD Projekt Red community director Marcin Momot:
"Save files carry over as it's an update to the existing game. Trophies/achievements remain unlocked."
So, concretely:
- Your saves work. All of them.
- Trophies you have already unlocked stay unlocked. Nothing resets.
- There is no second platinum. The list is the same one as before — 1 platinum, 2 gold, 8 silver and 68 bronze, spanning the base game, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Whether that is good news depends entirely on what you wanted. If you were hoping for a fresh stack to run, there isn't one. If you were dreading that a remaster would strand a half-finished list behind a new edition, it hasn't.
The genuinely useful part is the third bullet's consequence. Because both expansions now come with the game, the DLC trophies are reachable without buying anything extra. A 79-trophy list that used to require two paid expansions is now completable on a free update. If you own the base game and stalled at 45 of 79 because Blood and Wine was never on sale deeply enough, that obstacle is gone.
New to this? How to start trophy hunting on PlayStation is the place to begin, and trophy rarity explained covers why a decade-old platinum still reads as uncommon.
What you actually get on PS5
The headline performance gains are PS5 Pro gains, and it is worth being clear about that rather than letting the marketing blur it.
| Ray tracing mode | Performance mode | |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 Pro | 60fps | Uncapped, targeting ~90fps |
| PS5 (2022 Complete Edition) | 30fps | 60fps |
Two caveats that matter:
The ~90fps figure has conditions. It needs VRR and a high-refresh display. On a standard 60Hz TV you are not seeing it, and no patch changes that.
The base PS5 column is the 2022 version's. Those were the Complete Edition's modes. CD Projekt promoted the Pro numbers and has not published a comparable before-and-after for the base console, so we are not going to invent one. If you are on a standard PS5, treat the visual and gameplay changes below as the reason to care, not the frame rate.
The Pro uplift comes from PSSR, Sony's machine-learning upscaler — the same feature the September firmware update quietly switched on by default. Graphics engineer Tim Green's description of leaning on it was that "a lot of it kind of took care of itself." If you are weighing the Pro, this is a reasonable example of what the premium buys: see is the PS5 Pro worth it.
Path tracing is not coming to PS5. It is PC-exclusive. Several write-ups have put it in a headline next to features that are on console, so if that is what you were looking forward to, it is not in this build.
What is genuinely new
Beyond textures, lighting and ray tracing:
- The skill tree has been entirely rebuilt — CD Projekt's phrasing, not a rebalance
- Combat gets new animations, new finishers and an adaptive camera
- Witcher senses reworked to reveal clues only when you focus on the right thing, rather than lighting up everything nearby
- Transmog, so armour and weapons can look like something else without losing their stats
- New visual effects for all five signs
- Bard's Ballad, a set of accessibility features aimed at players with cognitive limitations
The skill system and witcher senses changes are the two that will alter how an old save plays, so expect some relearning if you are loading a 2015 character.
On reviews: there is no score yet, deliberately
Push Square's review is positive — it calls the game "even better" and credits the remaster with smoothing rough edges the 2022 Complete Edition left behind, while warning off anyone expecting game-changing additions.
It also has no number attached on purpose. The reviewer is holding the score until they can properly test the mod integration, which is billed as a key part of the package and was not fully available on PS5 until launch day. That is an unusual and fairly honest call, and it is worth knowing if you see a score circulating attributed to them.
The short version
Free, 45GB, and it overwrites the version you own rather than sitting beside it. Saves and unlocked trophies carry over, there is no new list to chase, and the expansions are now included — which makes the existing platinum cheaper to finish than it has ever been. PS5 Pro owners get the real performance story; everyone else gets the visual and systems work.
Written 29 September 2026. Upgrade scope, platform list and PS5 Pro figures per CD Projekt Red's own announcement. Trophy behaviour per Marcin Momot.
