Reviews for Control Resonant have landed ahead of its 24 September launch, and Remedy has its strongest critical result in the series.

The scores

  • OpenCritic: 84 — rated "Mighty", from 74 critics, with 85% recommending it
  • Metacritic: 84 on PS5, from 46 reviews

Metacritic also lists 84 on PC. Its Xbox Series X figure sits slightly lower, but on only six reviews, which is too thin to read anything into.

Where critics landed

Outlet Score
GameSpot 9/10
Giant Bomb 4.5/5
DualShockers 8.5/10
IGN 8/10
PC Gamer 76/100
Eurogamer 3/5

The praise is consistent: story, art direction, level design and combat. The criticism is just as consistent — pacing, and repetition in stretches.

Note the spread, though. GameSpot's 9 and Eurogamer's 3 out of 5 are not describing the same experience, and an 84 average with that kind of range usually means a game with a strong identity that does not land for everyone. The low scores are not calling it broken; they are calling it repetitive.

What it costs, and the early access question

  • Standard edition: $59.99 — unlocks 24 September
  • Digital Deluxe: $69.99 — includes 48 hours of advance access, which opened on 22 September

That $10 has become a different proposition now the reviews are out. Its main value was playing before anyone knew whether the game was good — and that risk has now been priced out by 74 critics. If you are buying now, you are paying for a head start that is most of the way through, not for a gamble.

Our full release-week guide covers the rest of the 21-27 September launches and how their early-access tiers compare.

The short version

If you liked Control, this is the best-reviewed entry in the series and the consensus is comfortably positive. If you bounced off the original's repetition, the outlier reviews suggest that specific complaint has not gone away.

Written 23 September 2026. Aggregate scores are at time of writing and will shift as more reviews land.
