Dune: Awakening — 22 September
Funcom's open-world survival game reaches consoles after launching on PC in June 2025, adding a solo mode and harder difficulty options. The $49.99 standard edition is the only one on disc. The Deluxe ($69.99) and Ultimate ($89.99) editions included five days of early access, which began on 17 September. On Xbox it is in Game Pass from day one; on PS5 you buy it.
We broke down which Dune: Awakening edition to buy separately.
Silent Hill: Townfall — 24 September
Konami's new self-contained Silent Hill, set in Scotland in 1996. The standard edition is $49.99. The Digital Deluxe ($59.99) adds a digital soundtrack, an interactive artbook, an alternate character skin and 48 hours of early access from 22 September.
A word of warning if you care about spoilers: a full playthrough leaked online ahead of release, so mute the relevant keywords now. Critics' reviews had not landed at the time of writing.
Control Resonant — 24 September
Remedy's follow-up in the Control universe. The standard edition is $59.99; the PS5 Digital Deluxe ($69.99) includes 48 hours of advance access, which opens on 22 September at 7am PT / 10am ET. A Mac version follows later in 2026.
EA Sports FC 27 — 25 September
The standard edition is $69.99 and unlocks on 25 September. Headline addition this year: The Grounds, a social open-world space.
- Ultimate Edition ($99.99) — up to 7 days of early access from 18 September, the Season 1 premium pass and 6,000 FC Points.
- Ultimate Plus ($149.99) — the same early access, premium passes for seasons 1–5 and 10,000 FC Points. Not available on Nintendo platforms or the Epic Games Store.
Early access for Ultimate and Ultimate Plus owners began on 18 September.
The pattern: every one of these sells a head start
All four releases this week put early access behind a more expensive edition:
| Game | Extra cost | Head start |
|---|---|---|
| Dune: Awakening | +$20 | 5 days |
| Silent Hill: Townfall | +$10 | 48 hours |
| Control Resonant | +$10 | 48 hours |
| EA Sports FC 27 | +$30 | up to 7 days |
Whether it is worth it depends almost entirely on the kind of game:
- Where it can matter: online games with a race at the start. In FC 27's Ultimate Team, the opening days are when the transfer market is most volatile. In Dune: Awakening, the first days are when land and resources are least contested. Paying for a head start there buys something real — though Dune's has already begun, so that advantage is gone for anyone buying now.
- Where it rarely does: single-player stories. Two days early on Silent Hill or Control gets you nothing except the story sooner. Pay the extra only if you want the soundtrack, artbook and cosmetics anyway.
- The hidden cost: early-access buyers commit before reviews exist. For a new horror game with no scores yet, that is a real risk to weigh against a 48-hour wait.
Also this week
- PS Plus Extra and Premium: Ball x Pit and Slitterhead join the catalogue on 22 September in the US, UK and Japan. Our full September PS Plus schedule has every date.
- Smaller releases: Samson (21 September), Graveyard Keeper 2 (22 September), and SiN Reloaded and Alien Breed 35th Anniversary (both 24 September).
Written 21 September 2026. Prices are standard US store prices at time of writing.
