PlayStation Is Quietly Giving Some Buyers $10 Store Credit — and Sony Hasn't Said a Word

Buy certain new games and $10 of Wallet Credit lands on your account straight away — for some players. Sony hasn't announced it, availability looks patchy, and it may be the replacement for PlayStation Stars.

Some PlayStation players are finding $10 of Wallet Credit on their accounts immediately after buying certain new games. Sony has not announced anything.

What players are reporting

Buy one of a handful of recent releases on the PlayStation Store and, for some accounts, a $10 Wallet Credit is attached straight away. One player reported receiving it immediately after buying The Blood of Dawnwalker.

Games reported with the offer so far include:

  • The Blood of Dawnwalker
  • Star Wars Zero Company
  • Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
  • Halloween
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword

The credit behaves like ordinary store funds, so it can go towards another game, add-ons or a subscription.

What nobody knows yet

More than is known, honestly.

Where it is live. The reports conflict. Kotaku cites sightings in the UK. Insider Gaming tried to reproduce it on consoles in the UK, Brazil and India and could not. The fair reading is that it is reaching some accounts in some regions — a limited test rather than a rollout.

How long it runs. Offers have been described as limited-time, with no end date given.

What it actually is. Sony has not explained it. Kotaku contacted PlayStation for comment and had no answer at the time of its report. A "Wallet Credits" listing appeared on the PlayStation Store back in February without explanation, and it now looks like groundwork for this.

Why this could be bigger than $10

Sony already had a loyalty scheme — PlayStation Stars — and it did not work. Kotaku describes it as having died in 2025, largely because most players never knew it existed: you had to use the PlayStation App to take part at all. Insider Gaming reports its final shutdown is set for 2 November 2026.

This is our reading rather than anything Sony has said, but the shape is hard to miss. Stars paid out points, through an app, for completing campaigns. This pays out cash credit, at checkout, on the purchase itself — no app, no points, nothing to opt into. It fixes exactly the problem that killed the last one.

If that is what it is, it matters. Store credit at the point of purchase is a direct discount on full-price games, the kind of thing that changes where people choose to buy — and it would be Sony's first real answer to the store rewards offered elsewhere.

Should you buy a game for it?

No — not on its own.

  • Don't buy a game you didn't want for $10 back. That is spending money to receive less of it.
  • If you were already buying one of these, check the product page for the offer before you pay. There is no way to opt in, and it is not showing on every account.
  • Don't assume it will appear. Because it is patchy, buying on the expectation of credit risks paying full price with nothing back.

We will update this if Sony confirms how it works.
