Silent Hill: Townfall reviews are out ahead of its 24 September launch, and Konami's self-contained entry has landed better than the series' recent record would suggest.
The scores
- OpenCritic: 82 — rated "Strong", from 61 critics, with 85% recommending it
- Metacritic: 81 on PS5, from 56 reviews, and 80 on PC from 21
Where critics landed
| Outlet | Score |
|---|---|
| PC Gamer | 89/100 |
| DualShockers | 9/10 |
| Tom's Guide | 4.5/5 |
| IGN | 8/10 |
| Eurogamer | 4/5 |
This is a notably tight spread — no outlet in the sample above dropped below a 4 out of 5. Critics are broadly agreeing, which is unusual for a Silent Hill release and worth more than the headline number on its own.
What they praised: the horror atmosphere, the puzzle design and the soundtrack. One reviewer described it as giving a long-running series a welcome shot in the arm.
What they criticised: a limited enemy roster, a story several found predictable, some clunky moments, and supporting characters who could have been better developed.
Read together, that is a game carried by mood and craft rather than by surprises — which, for Silent Hill, is arguably the right order of priorities.
What it costs
- Standard edition: $49.99 — PS5 and PC, out 24 September
- Digital Deluxe: $59.99 — adds a digital soundtrack, an interactive artbook, an alternate character skin and 48 hours of early access, which opened on 22 September
As with Control Resonant this week, the early-access premium was most valuable before scores existed. With reviews now in and most of the head start elapsed, the Deluxe is worth it for the soundtrack and artbook rather than for the two days.
One warning worth repeating: a full playthrough leaked online before release. If you care about going in unspoiled, mute the game's name across social feeds until you have played it.
Our release-week guide has the rest of the 21-27 September launches.
The short version
At 81–82 with 85% of critics recommending it, this is the most consistently well-received Silent Hill in some time. If you want atmosphere and puzzles, reviewers say it delivers. If you need a story that surprises you, that is the complaint that comes up most.
Written 23 September 2026. Aggregate scores are at time of writing and will shift as more reviews land.
